Picasso turned into Synthetic Cubism and a number of forms were now incorporated to form alternating objects on the paintings including depiction of man and events. Lovers of Pablo picasso paintings considered his work as the envelopment of symbolic styles as shown in his work “Guernica”, the “Weeping Woman” and the “Dying Horse”.
It is believed that Picasso took a lot of time to create this 96″ x 92″ oil on canvass masterpiece. Initially, he wanted to depict a regular brothel scene with female prostitutes, a sailor, and a medicinal student. In a while however, Pablo’s ideas shifted to ‘Cubism’ and he formed the splendor, “Les Demoiselles d’ Avignon (The Young Ladies of Avignon),” where the prostitutes looked directly into the eyes of the viewer, showing a part of their sexual fear, which in turn would become troubling to the spectator.
Early Art: Shades of Blue and Red
Pablo Picasso was the son of Jose Ruiz y Blasco, a artist and art professor, possibly influencing young Pablo into a life of art. But according to his mother, Maria Picasso y Lopez, Pablo’s firstly word was “pencil,” thus the boy was born to be an artist. Picasso would manifest, “My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.” He received his first formal education under his father and began with academic realism. Slowly, being influenced by El Greco and Edvard Munch, he developed a more modernist variety.
His career can be broken down into quite a few periods. His Blue Period (1901- 1904), is rightly named for the characteristic somber hues and sad subjects that dominate these canvasses. Often poor mothers with underfed children, miserable lower class families, and overall just depressed people in sad surroundings were the main subjects. His bleak outlook on life at this juncture was probably the result of losing a friend to suicide.
The Rose Period (1904- 1906) marks a change into a happier era for the artist. “Boy With Pipe” which is the highest selling Picasso at auction, was painted during this period. This happier time was when Picasso met Fernande Olivier and is reminiscent of happier times earlier in his life before the Blue Period. You’ll see many acrobats and Harlequins in this period.
The change in Picasso’s style can also be attributed to his connection with Fernande Olivier, whom he had met in 1904. The bond, at least during the Rose Period, was a happy one for Picasso. Pablo picasso paintings of her were the works of a young lover, as opposed to his later portraits of the women in his life, which would become a lot more abstract and new.
Artistic genius Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) achieved supremacy in every medium he worked in: Pablo picasso paintings, ceramics, sculptures, drawing and print making. As one of the most prolific artists at all times, he made a large volume of works in every medium.
Printmaking has been central in Pablo picasso paintings. He is one of the finest and most creative print makers of all time. Today, I want to talk about ‘Minotauromachy’ which is often cited as the most important print of the twentieth century.
It is interesting to see that often artists make their most astounding works at times that their personal lives are at a low. Picasso was no exception. 1935. Not quite yet divorced from his first wife Olga, and his new girl friend Marie-Therese already pregnant. It was without a doubt a hard personal year for Pablo picasso paintings.
